LIEUTENANT-COLONEL FREDERICK S. STRONG, JR.

Was born May 16, 1887, at Orchard Lake, Michigan, Graduated from Michigan Military Academy in 1904, and from the U. S. Military Academy in 1910, being assigned to the Corps of Engineers. He served on the Mississippi and Ohio rivers and on the Panama Canal. Was on duty at Washington Barracks for three years and at West Point, N. Y. for four years as instructor in engineering and mathematics. He was promoted to 1st. lieutenant in 1913 and to captain in 1916; arrived in France in August, 1918, as lieutenant-colonel, 5th. Engineers; was transferred to the 2nd. Engineers and served through the St. Mihiel and Champagne operations, in September and October, 1918. Lt.-Col. Strong was transferred to the 116th. Engineers and assumed command October. 30.
